Those are the feelings Mama's house would always make us feel as we walked through the doorway. She would receive us with a smile, a hug, and a question:

“Did you eat already?”

No matter our answer, she would make us one of our favorite dishes while joking that she should open a restaurant so we would have to pay for her food.

A decade ago, we opened Mama Cuca's restaurant in her honor; as a celebration of all the warmth that she brought to our hearts, the smile that welcomed us, and the food that brought us comfort.
